Butterbeer Is Real and You Can Make It at Home Liquor.com / Tim Nusog “Harry Potter” introduced us to all manner of wizardry, from intricate potions and spells to flying brooms and fantastical creatures. But curious drinkers have always gravitated toward one particular invention: Butterbeer.

  • Fortunately, Harry Potter’s favorite drink is simple to replicate, so you don’t need to visit the Three Broomsticks bar to try it.
  • Grown-up wizards and adult muggles alike can make this famous Diagon Alley treat right in their own cauldrons, no spells required.
  • The Butterbeer begins with equal parts vanilla vodka and butterscotch schnapps, which supply the boozy quotient in this recipe.

Cream soda provides the cold, fizzy element, and when combined, the trio yields a drink that is sweet and refreshing. But it’s not a good Butterbeer without a thick, creamy head. That’s where the whipped cream comes in. Heavy whipping cream is joined by butterscotch sundae topping, and the duo is whipped with a mixer until forming a perfect topper.

Put it all together, and you’ve got a drink fit for Potter and his pals. In the event that a few underage fans (or lightweight house-elves) want to join the festivities, it’s easy to make Butterbeer nonalcoholic. Is Prime drink safe for 12 year olds?

Kids & teenagers are thirsty for Prime drinks, dietitian urges caution WESTWOOD, Mass — A drink made popular on Youtube has local middle schoolers, and their parents on the hunt, to track down the pricey bottles. “Little kids are obsessed with it. My brother’s in middle school, and he buys stuff like crazy, and he’s, like, reselling them to his friends,” one Westwood shopper told us.

  1. Prime is the brainchild of social media superstar Logan Paul, who started it last year with former boxing rival KSI.
  2. At first, Prime was available only on its own website, where the drink is now sold out.
  3. That sent their millions of followers on the hunt.
  4. In fact, it’s hard to find at many typical supermarkets.

Online shopping shows how pricey Prime can be. Boston 25 found a variety pack on Amazon for $45 for 8 bottles. A single-flavor 12-pack was $30. Local families we talked to said the craze sparked a second-hand market in some schools with students re-selling single bottles for a profit.

  • There are two kinds of Prime drinks: Hydration in a bottle and Energy in a can.
  • The hydration drink comes in bright bottles with names like “Meta Moon” and “Ice pop.” It’s similar to a sports drink and has 10% coconut water.
  • Dietitians say families should pay attention to which type they’re getting.
  • The energy drink contains 200 mg of caffeine, nearly double the amounts in Red Bull or Monster.

Kellie Westercamp is a registered licensed dietitian. She said the extreme caffeine can be addictive and cause insomnia, depression, irregular heart rates, and high blood pressure. When asked if she would let her children drink Prime Energy, Westercamp said “No.

Why is Butterbeer not vegan?

After years of asking and asking for the simple act of being able to order Butterbeer at Universal theme parks without the topping, vegans and those with food allergies are rejoicing as vegan Butterbeer is finally available at both Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood! We originally reported this back in August when you could get it without the topping, but now you can get a totally vegan version with the topping! UPDATE: We now have vegan Butterbeer with topping! What follows is our original post from last August, with the news of the vegan topping below that – updated in March of 2023.

Due to issues with “trademark” and to keep the “integrity” of the Harry Potter universe, prior to now, Universal was unable to sell Butterbeer without the signature marshmallow topping, which contained dairy and also trace amounts of wheat making it non-gluten-friendly as well. Even though in the books Butterbeer was sold hot and in bottles, which already had to be changed to sell in theme parks, it took this long to get someone in legal to budge on this issue.

We are now thrilled to report that this has changed and you may now order frozen and cold Butterbeer with no foam topping, which makes it vegan as is. The hot Butterbeer still contains dairy with or without the topping. The funny thing is, when we went to order, the team member serving us said “it’s still not vegan even without the topping” and we asked if there was an allergy binder or list of ingredients. She called a chef for us, because she thought it contained “red dye” which wasn’t vegan.

We know from experience with the Engagement Ring Cake at Disney’s Hollywood Studios that certain red dyes can be an issue, specifically when called carmine, crimson lake, cochineal (in the soy wraps on the Frushi served at EPCOT’s Flower & Garden Festival too), or “natural red dye #4.” The chef confirmed there was no red dye in either frozen or cold Butterbeer.

There was a yellow dye, which does not contain animal products. So we all breathed a sigh of relief and took a swig of our first Butterbeer in years! Huge thanks to the Protego Foundation for their petitions to get this changed, and Universal Orlando Vegans for spreading the word. UPDATE! In March of 2023, Universal Orlando quietly revealed that they now had a fully vegan – with topping! version of the iconic Butterbeer. See their post on social media: Universal Hollywood soon followed suit and vegan Butterbeer now available on both coasts! But where can you get it? See the list below, because it is not currently available at the Butterbeer cart locations, just the restaurants:

At Universal Orlando Resort, vegan Butterbeer can be found at the Three Broomsticks restaurant in Hogsmeade (Universal Islands of Adventure) and the Leaky Cauldron restaurant in Diagon Alley (Universal Studios Orlando). In Hollywood vegan Butterbeer is now available at the Hog’s Head pub and the Three Broomsticks restaurant in Hogsmeade at Universal Studios Hollywood.

We’ll share our thoughts on it as soon as we try this new option! Thanks again to the Protego Foundation and Universal Orlando Vegans for all their hard work! Is there alcohol in the wizarding world?

The Drinks – Does Butterbeer Have Alcohol Does Butterbeer Have Alcohol Does Butterbeer Have Alcohol Non-Alcoholic: Just as the food remains true to the books and the setting, so do the drinks. The real star of the area is the famous Butterbeer and can be found roughly every 20 feet inside both parks. Butterbeer is a butterscotch meets caramel meets cream soda flavored drink.

  1. It’s offered in regular form, frozen and even hot for the few days out of the year it drops below 70 degrees.
  2. Go for the frozen variety in the signature mug, which allows for you to get refills at a discounted price throughout the two worlds.
  3. Almost as popular as the butterbeer is the Pumpkin Juice, which is combination of pineapple and apple juices mixed with pumpkin spice flavoring, and tastes like fall in a cup.

Diagon Alley also features the almost neon-bright Fishy Green Ale, which is a mash up of mint and cinnamon with blueberry flavored pearls akin to boba at the bottom. Then there is the twist on lemonade called Tongue Tying Lemon Squash, a fizzy orange concoction known as the Otter’s Fizzy Juice and the Peachtree Fizzing Tea, an unsweetened ice tea.

All the non-alcoholic beverages will run you roughly $5 a glass. If you’re a fan of juices they are worth a try since it’s a nice break from the water you’ll be likely guzzling. Otherwise, you won’t miss much by skipping them. Alcoholic: But we know what you’re really thinking — what about the booze? Unlike its theme park counterpart, all Universal parks allow alcohol on-site.

Both Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley serve two proprietary beers: the dark, malt-heavy porter known as Wizard’s Brew and the lighter lager-style Dragon Scale beer, both created by the Florida Beer Brewing Company. Adjacent to Three Broomsticks is Hog’s Head Pub is the only bar in the two worlds, which is a bit grim and dark in keeping with the theme of the books.

  1. The highlight of the menu is the pub’s own Fire Whiskey, which is its take on cinnamon-flavored Fireball.
  2. It also happens to pair well with the Butterbeer.
  3. No sodas can be found in Hog’s Head, but there are a few specialty drinks like Hog’s Tea, a Long Island iced tea riff and the strongest drink on the menu, and the Pear Dazzle, which is a mix of vodka and pear cider.

Hog’s Head features a fully stocked bar, but mixers are limited to juices, tea, beer, cider, or sour mix. Wines by the glass in your standard varieties like chardonnay and merlot are also available. Prices range from $9 for a beer, glass of wine or shot, to $11 and up for a mixed drink.

What is Butterbeer made of at Harry Potter world?

What does butterbeer taste like? – According to the books, butterbeer is made from just three ingredients: butterscotch, sugar and water. As far as taste, it’s described as “a little bit like less sickly butterscotch”. I’m not sure I know exactly what that means but it definitely has a distinct butterscotch taste. However, the typical butterbeer recipe has some combination of cream soda and butterscotch syrup, topped with whipped cream. Sometimes other ingredients are thrown in the mix, like butter extract or rum extract but we’ll just have to keep guessing when it comes to Universal’s secret recipe.
